Is it true that almost everywhere in california has cockroaches? |
Travel Info I'm planning on moving to so-cal (San Diego) and everyone and there brother is telling me, no matter where I live or how expensive my rent is, I'm going to have cockroaches. Now where I'm from (Iowa) if you have cockroaches you. A. Have a very dirty disgusting house. Or B. You live in the ghetto. I hate pretty much all bugs, and if I'm going to have to worry about roaches crawling on me while I'm sleeping, I think I'll move somewhere else ha. Thanks! Travel Tips you're pretty much right, people here will have cockroaches when they live in filth or live in a old, house in the ghetto. I've never had a problem with cockroaches. I did live in a house right above a canyon that did have a fair amount of bugs but the house was a complete dump and we only lived there b/c it was the closest house to UCSD that would rent to five college guys; which is probably a big reason it was such a dump and had bugs. But if you do live by the beach and keep your house somewhat clean it shouldn't be a problem; at least not anymore than it would anywhere else in the country. Except for homes near canyons or other wildlife I don't think SD has many bugs and definately does not have a problem with mosquitos like other parts of CA. It's not humid here and doesn't rain too much and doesn't rain at all from May to October so bugs aren't that big of a problem here, at least from my experiance. Others Cockroaches are everywhere, most of the time you just don't see them. I moved to san diego about 3 month ago and i have not seen a coakroach anywhere! We have lived in CA for many years, and I never saw a cockroach.........not in my house or anybody elses for that matter. There will be bugs (earwigs, spiders etc.), and I don't think there is any place that doesn't have bugs. So go ahead and move to San Diego........you'll love it there !!!!!! Unlike the people above me... I will tell you the truth: yes, most places have cockroaches. If you're located in an inland/rural area, somewhere with lots of food being grown (especially fruit trees), near drainage ditches, etc... you will probably have more. The closer to the beach you are, the less there will be. Fortunately, there is a solution! Keep clutter out of your home, be sure to do your dishes regularly, don't leave food out where the roaches can get it and either put a few roach traps around your kitchen and bathroom (under the sink areas and in the back of lower cupboards) or get a cat to hunt them. We live in the foothills, where there are lots of happy places for roaches to hide, but we do all of the above (except the traps) and don't have much of a problem. We occasionally see them scurry through the kitchen, but then the cat gets pointed toward the kitchen for a nice snack. Personal experience... I am only afraid of three things in the world: death, chalk, and cockroaches. So if I live here and it's no problem, then you shouldn't have one :) When you tour an apartment or house, make sure you open all the cabinets in the kitchen and in the bathroom. Also, look behind the refrigerator if you can. Look around the baseboards, too. This is how I have avoided roach infestationed rentals. I have lived in and around San Diego for 12 years and I haven't lived with a single cockroach. Tiny black ants were my biggest problem. If you do happen to move into a roach infested apartment, which I don't reccommend, there is a gel by Combat that works wonders. My cousin moved into a roach infested house in Tennessee and the roaches were gone within 2 months after she applied that stuff to all the cabinets and behind the appliances. The only thing is you have to be consistant with the applications or they will comeback since their nests are left behind in the walls and the refrigerator motor. Other insects I've not had problems with are flys and mosquitos. For some reason they aren't as bad here. |
