Anyone know cool places in San Diego? |
Travel Info I've lived here all my life and I've seen most of the typical touristy attraction and other places, but does anyone know of some cool places that maybe aren't very well known? I just got an urge to explore the city and go places I've never been before. Thanks! Travel Tips Coronado Island - there's alot of neat places to visit and have lunch. The Crown Bistro motel is a really romantic neat place to stay at. And there's a great mexican restaurant a couple blocks from hotel del coronado - think it's called cafe azul, something like that. point loma is another place to just hang out and visit for the day..lots of free stuff to see and do. Others I've visited San Diego, and some the places I've visted was Balboa Park, and the San Diego Zoo. Those were just two places I've been to. These are places that are near San Diego that I find quite enjoyful: Black's Beach over in La Jolla near Torrey Pines reserve. Queen Califia's Magic Circle in Escondido, it is off of Via Rancho Parkway. Swami's beach and gardens up in Encinitas. Scenic views up atop Mt. Helix in La Mesa. Hiking around Los Penasquitos canyon, etc... some things that come to mind: Mt Hope and/or Greenwood cemetery, the historic Naval Training center just opened up, Pt. Loma Nazarene college (1904 Greek Theatre, lotus dome buildings, etc. ), UCSD and SDSU campus back trails, The Marston House (and dozens of other historic houses, see the Reader museums section), climb Cowles mountain, walk around Lake Murray, Go see Sweetwater Dam in Bonita, drive to small towns in East County (Campo, Boulevard, Potrero), See the East side of Balboa Park (hidden trails in Golden Hill Park, Velodrome, Frisbee Golf, etc.), Somali grocery store at 54th and El Cajon, The Miramar dump can be cool (best lunch wagon food in town), Chicano park and nearby restaurants, go eat at the diner up at the Stu Segal studios, watch the hang gliders at Torrey PInes gliderport, see the 1850s border maker at Border Field Park before the Homeland Security blocks access, Get lost in Tiajuana where the tourists don't go (head up one of the steep hills), go to the beach in TJ, visit the Imperial Beach pier and get fish at the snack bar at the end, Go to Scripps Institution and find the library and the glass elevators, rent a kayak at La Jolla Shores, climb the Paradise Point Resort 1950s iron tower, Quail Gardens Park, shop at the used book store at the library in Rancho Santa Fe, Go to Borrego Springs in August and have the town to yourself, go to Cononado for the 4th of July, Antique shopping in La Mesa, Visit the cool new stores in Little Italy (especially on Ketner St.), Go to Sunday open houses in condo towers downtown and check out the views, eat at The Big Kitchen or Rudford's, visit the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, The Surf Museum in Oceanside, see a drive-in movie... Have you ever been to the self-realization meditation gardens in Encinitas? It's so beautiful there; so peaceful and quiet. See pictures- http://radified.com/encinitas/gardens/in... Map and directions- http://www.yogananda-srf.org/temples/enc... I know lots of little places that aren't as well known. I write a blog about San Diego that you can check out some of the stuff on there is places that you probably have already heard of but there are a few great little spots that aren't so well known. I'm constantly looking for other great less known places to write about so keep checking back. Victoria http://www.about-sandiegoca.com/... |
