Which is the safe and cheap mode of transportation from DisneyLand to SanDiego & then to LA? |
Travel Info We are a family of 4 with 2 kids travelling from DLand early in the morning to SanDiego Mission Valley, tour sea world, stay that night is SanDiego and next day again visit sea world and then in the afternoon go to LA Downtown Citicenter. Is taxi expensive? How safe are the buses? Is renting a car good option. Not familiar with the roads in LA. Travel Tips I think taking the bus is pretty safe and very inexpensive, but would be very uncomfortable for a family to ride in, especially for that amount of distance. Also, time is extended dramatically, what with all the stops, the turns around the cities to pick every one up, and the need to constantly transfer from one bus to the next. I took the bus from one city to another in the LA County, and a 35 minute drive turned into a 1.5 hour bus ride. I imagine that a 2 hour drive from LA to SD would turn into a 5+ hour bus ride. Taxi cabs would be much quicker, but can get very expensive. And I don't think they would drive that far away anyway. If you'll notice, Taxi cabs are located according to city/county, and not according to state. I would suggest renting a vehicle. Car rentals start from about $25 and up. I rented a car with insurance included in the package from LA to Yosemite, and paid about $85 for the entire weekend, not including gas. Because you're staying in the state of California, you will have unlimited mileage, and wont need to worry about paying for miles. But be sure to get a car with a CD player! I ALMOST got one without a CD player, that would have been bothersome! If CD players aren't so important to you or your family, just make sure the vehicle comes with features to make the car ride comfortable. It's usually not too much more pricey. The upgrade from no CD to one with CD was only about $10. Source(s): http://www.mta.net/default.asp http://www.layellowcab.com/ http://www.enterprise.com/car_rental/hom... Other Travel Tips Rent a car. With that many people, it would be more efficient, and cheaper than going through the hoopla of a taxi or public transportation. Public transportation in Southern California is not as great as other big cities such as San Francisco, New York, or Chicago. Just be prepared to sit in a car for while due to traffic. The bus system is not connected too well from one city to another. Taxi's are mighty expensive for travelling that far. Also, when you are up in Los Angeles, be prepared to pay for parking. Orange County and San Diego have ample parking, but almost anywhere you go in Los Angeles may require payed parking. You may have to pay for parking at Disneyland. Driving Disneyland to San Diego ~ 2 Hours, sometimes 3 Hours, depending on traffic. San Diego to Los Angeles ~ 2.5 Hours, sometimes 3.5 depending on traffic. Lived in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles. A great way to travel between the areas you mentioned is via the commuter rail system know as Metrolink and also Coaster (in San Diego county) The fares are reasonable and the service frequent & safe. Amtrak also travels over these lines but is more costly and really not that much faster. From Disneyland you can access Metrolink at either Anaheim or Santa Ana stations. Personally I would use the Santa Ana station as there is a direct bus from Disneyland to that station that is also very frequent. Going to San Diego, Start from Disneyland on OCTA bus line # 205 which boards on Harbor Blvd near the main entrance gates. Ride to the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (Metrolink station) From there take a Oceanside bound train to the end which is the transfer point to Coaster rail for the short continuation ride into downtown San Diego. Traveling in the early morning is actually a good time of day to use the service as well as the most frequent departures are in morning and evening rush hours, although service is available all day Monday through Saturday. Now from San Diego to LA it is really easy; Just reverse your trip down by starting on a Coaster train from downtown San Diego to Oceanside then transfer to a Metrolink train bound for Los Angeles Union station. Once in LA your Metrolink ticket is valid for use on the MTA bus and subway system as well as several other municipal bus operators. As a side note there is also a direct express bus that operates between Didneyland and downtown LA , MTA #460 in case your itinerary changes. Good Luck! www.metrolinktrains.com www.coasterrail.com www.mta.net Rent a car. Aside from city buses, there is no other public transportation to Sea World. |
