Which weekend do you think will be bigger in SD: The weekend before July 4th or After?

Travel Info
Some of my friends were thinking of coming to visit for the July 4th celebrations in SD but can't stay the whole week. Since the 4th falls on a Wed this year, do you think the weekend leading up to the 4th (June 29th-July 2nd) will be the biggest weekend or the weekend after the 4th (July 6th-8th) will be bigger? Which weekend do you think the most people will be in town? Normally I'd say the weekend leading up but I was thinking some people might not come into town until Tue night/Wed morning then take Thu and Fri off. I'm just not sure what weekend to tell them to come down.

Travel Tips
San Diego is a Popular destination during the summer. Because the 4th is on a Wed I would say it would be about the same either way.

Before the 4th, you will have people coming down and make it a long weekend(Sat-Wed) and go home on the 4th.

After the 4th, you will have people who came down and make it a long weekend on the other side(Wed-Sun).

You will then have people who take off the entire week and stay from the Saturday before to the Sunday after.

Either way they should definatly book any hotels(if needed) ahead of time and expect traffic down to San Diego especially if you are traveling on any of the weekend days. Have them travel late night/early morning if at all possible.

San Diego weekends generally see a lot of people, regardless of the weekend. The beach areas and Mission bay are usually busiest, but the zoo and sea World get busy too. With the July 4th holiday in the middle of the week, it doesn't pose enough of an extra incentive to really create a surge of tourists beyond those already planning on being in town.

If you want to avoid the tourist crowds, you really need to visit our city between September-May.
I looked at hotel/beach reservation sites, and from what I see, both weekends are just a full. There is hardly anything left anywhere near the beach any weekend in July or August.
The weekend of July the fourth cause lots of people will be taking off and business will be closed probably throughout the whole weekend.
The 2 weekends after the 4th if the Over the Line tournament is going on. That draws thousands of people to Fiesta Island!

During the summer San Diego is always busy. The best time to go is Sept-December.
