Where are some of the best areas(I Know its very expensive) to live in San Diego? |
Travel Info My company is considering opening a small office there and I have entertain the thought of moving my family from Austin Tx, to San Diego. I would like to know from people that actually reside in the area to give me a little info on the neighborhoods(high crime/low crime) and the school system. I know that I can get this info from a realtor if we decided to move, but I do know their main goal is to sell a house, so I dont feel as if I would get an honest opinion like I would from you guys. Any help would really be appreciated. Travel Tips If you will be living within 5-8 miles from the ocean or bay you'll be living in the best year-round climate in North America,and one of the top 3 worldwide. Not much humidity as you experience in Texas, tho late Aug and early Sept you may need the air conditioner a bit. Best areas are most expensive, naturally. La Jolla,for example, and with a great school system. And all coastall communties and sections north or La Jolla. High prices for both sales and rentals. Pacific Beach, a neighborhood of San Diego and just below La Jolla, is also excellent. SD generally has some of the most expensive real estate in the land, even with the big declines in the last few years. Rentals also are high, tho declining a bit recently, with more vacancies. Other than La Jolla, Coronado in the South Bay is excellent, low crime and good schools. A lot of retired Navy people there, but in recent years a good mix of others. Surrounded by water, great free beaches. Or you can go out t o the mountains east of the city. People tell me that Pine Valley (still in SD County) is great living and good schools, but it's quite a drive to the city. Or you can go out to the hill country that is Northeast of the city. If on a restricted income try places like La Mesa or Santee. Not in the same league as those mentioned previously, but not that bad. Others Yeah, what he said. :) I live in Clairemont. It's kinda getto. I wouldn't buy here, we just have a cheap 6 month lease. I like PB, it's got a fun beach atmosphere. La Jolla is kinda the same, but a little nicer and richer. My husband works out in Poway. The Poway, Rancho Bernardo area is nice. It's kinda inland, but you can get nice big new houses out there, and because they're not ON the water, they're cheaper....well, less expensive. :) I think close to downtown would be fun too. There's a lot of condo and housing options all over. North County is nice, like Oceanside and Carlsbad, but it's kinda a far commute to most jobs. My whole family lives in the San Diego area. I also lived there for many years. For the best of both worlds, try to find something in Ocean Beach. That's where I lived, and my sister lives there with three kids. Her neighborhood is wonderful, the schools are excellent (magnet) schools, the shopping is close by, and the beach is within walking distance. My daughter and her three boys live in El Cajon, which is also a very nice place to live, but very desert-like. Santee and Lakeside are in the same area (way out east). My In-laws live in the La Mesa area (also east), but they say the smog is worse there. My cousin lives in a Scripps Ranch family-style condo, and loves it. Scripps Ranch was the site of a horrible fire a few years back, but it is recovering nicely. There are so many good choices, you probably will receive good advice from a real estate agent. I miss San Diego very much. It all depends how far you would like to travel and if you buying or renting. Crime rates differ from place to place. If you are looking to buy a home and want to stay in median range for San Diego look into buying in Central San Diego and East County. If you are really looking to get away and dont mind to travel look in the Alpine to Pine Valley area, far enough away from SD but close enought to all you would need.
