Goin to Sacramento in June, but taking a day trip SF....where are some good beaches?

Travel Info
b/f has never been to CA and wants to go to the beach. I want a beach that is kid/family friendly and also one that he and I can visit for some piece and quiet without the kids...any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Travel Tips
San Francisco has some beautiful beaches, such as Ocean Beach and Fort Funston. However, they are crowded with people, the water is near freezing, and the water is often too rough to swim in. Ocean beach can be very dangerous, with waves sweeping people on the beach out to sea. Fort Funston is fun for kids, though, because there are a lot dogs there, and they can see hang gliders.

If you can drive a little bit farther, there are better beaches in the Monterey Bay. The water is calmer, and it seems to be sunnier in the summer. Capitola, Aptos, and Santa Cruz all have great family friendly beaches where the kids can play in the water. For more sight-seeing or romantic beaches, there is Lover's Point in Pacific Grove, which is a popular rocky beach with a small cove for swimming. There is Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove, which is prettier than Lover's Point, less crowded, and a great walk along the coastline.

If you have a lot of extra time, and are willing to pay a few dollars, you should go to 17 Mile Drive south of Carmel, where there are a lot of small beaches and hardly any people. Good luck! Source(s): CA resident my whole life

Other Travel Tips
The closest would be Ocean Beach.

If you had a little more time I would recommend Santa Cruz which is about 1.5 hours south. They have the beach boardwalk which would be great fun for the little ones.
Truth is there are no "good beaches" in Northern California. Most of June they will be socked in with fog. If you get lucky, and it happens to be a clear day (there always are a few) Stinson Beach North of the Golden Gate bridge is quite nice. In the City I would recommend Baker Beach. Santa Cruz is fun, but with a boardwalk and amusement park you aren't likely to find the peace and quiet. San Gregorio Beach (between SF and Santa Cruz) would likely be more peaceful as well.

Have fun!!
if you plan on actually going in the water, might want to bring a wet suit. temps usually hover around 50 and are down right freezing year round.
try resorts. they have nice beaches
For one thing, the beaches in northern California are nothing like the Beach Boys sang about in the 60s.
In June, it's foggy season on the coast in the SF Bay Area, and at the beaches the weather is either going to be foggy or somewhat foggy or at least cool.
And the temperature of the ocean water is COLD, not warm like Southern Cal or Hawaii, because a cold water ocean current runs off the northern California coast.
