You're moving from one major city to another one, so there's really nothing in San Francisco you haven't seen before in Chicago. Honestly, you'll find many more similarities than differences. For example, the BART, Caltrain, and MUNI rail lines all end up in one place (much like The El Loop and Metra stations in Chicago). Both cities are ran by a small cabal of Democrats and their sons/daughters. They both have large immigrant communities. The airport configuration is similar, with one major airport (SFO/O'Hare) and two smaller ones (Oakland, Mineta/ Midway, Gary). I could go on... Though I will admit that finding Chicago style pizza in San Francisco is a mostly futile endeavor. Cheese $10. Others Don't bend over when picking something up that you dropped. Also, don't go out to eat there and check very carefully if you have to get a new dentist. You are going to love SF or hate it. SF + The weather is great 99.9% of the time. Temps today in the 40's which is very cold for SF but warm compared to Chicago. The Bay area is beautiful, water, hills, and lots of green space SF is much move diverse and mixed than Chicago is The food is 2nd to none Ignore the people who assume that SF is all gay men and tell you "don't bend over" they are scared of their own homoerotic feelings. SF is welcoming to everyone. But it is even more expensive to live in than Chicago. If you company is willing to pay to relocate you, I'd say go for it. I moved to SF from downstate Illinois in 1983 and can't imgaine living anyplace else. |
