Recommendations for trips/day trips from San Francisco?

Travel Info
My boyfriend and I are going to San Francisco for two weekends and one full week. We are going to tour SF and visit friends on the weekends but plan on renting a car and traveling away from the city (North and/or South) for the five week days. Does anyone have any recommendations for cities/locations to visit (other than the obvious Napa Valley), things to do, or places to stay (preferably cute/inexpensive bed and breakfasts). Basically, we have five days away from San Fran--what would be your recommendation for how we spend them? Thanks so much!!

Travel Tips
Half Moon Bay. Its a little town about an hour south. Downtown has numerous little restaurants, art galleries, and bed&breakfasts. There are farms around the town and beautiful beaches with amazing views from the cliffs. There is Ritz Carlton on the beach which is a very unique Ritz Carlton,it is very comfortable. If you can't afford that(like most people) there are a lot of bed&breakfasts to choose from.

Others
Yosemite! The raw power of the earth will astound you.

Monterey and Big Sur the coastline at its finest.

Whale cruiz if the time of year is right.

Take a day on the bay, Alcatraz, Sausalito, or even better Tiburon stay in a hotel downtown and then rent bikes and explore Angel Island.

Enjoy!
Muir Woods
Santa Cruz/Monterey/Big Sur (You could make this a two- or three-day exploration, as they're all on the coast highway.)
Russian River
Obviously I have to say Napa Valley. There's more to do here than just taste wine!

Otherwise I've heard Carmel is an absolutely beautiful town, although highly expensive for anything you want to do.

If you choose Napa Valley, email me and I could try and help on stuff to do and see.
I live in Napa.
I like everyone's ideas! Take Highway 1 from San Francisco and drive down the coast stopping at Half Moon Bay and Capitola or Santa Cruz, head down to the Monterey area, stop in Pacific Grove and spend the night there.
Born in Frisco, raised in San Jose, and married in Pacific Grove! haha, it's a beautiful place, The Bay Area! Have a wonderful time!
