How do high school teachers in the San Francisco bay area manage the high land prices?

Does the job pay well enough to be able to live there, or do they all commute a couple hours?

According to Bankrate.com: School employees in California, who face some of the nation's highest housing costs while earning teachers' salaries, can take advantage of a zero-down program courtesy of their pension fund, CalSTRS.
This is one way: Teachers and other school employees can borrow 95 percent of a house's value from a CalSTRS-affiliated credit union or lender, which sells the loan to Freddie Mac. They borrow the other 5 percent through CalSTRS affiliates, too -- but payments on that portion of the loan are deferred until the house is sold or 30 years pass.

Most everyone in California commutes blue collar and white collar alike. Nobody lives in the city that they work especially if they work in Frisco, a land of exorbitant rents, impossible mortgages, snobby people and lots of cold fog.
Its a city to visit not to live.

They either rent, live in the Central Valley, have two jobs, or has a spouse that earns a lot of $$.
Public school teachers are paid according to the cost of living in the district. That's why schools are paid for through property tax that then filters into the district that property is a part of.
hahaha. Good question. My dad is a teacher and the jobs do not pay well at all. The only reason my parents were able to afford where we live is that they bought our house when only around 8000 people lived here. Then, when the prices went up, so did our land value. But I honestly don't know how other teachers cope. Lots of saving I guess.
