Travel Info Are there any film festivals or big art shows in San Francisco the last week of March? Travel Tips There should be 4 good shows at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art that week . . . French multimedia artist Sylvie Blocher has produced a number of installations over the last decade for the ongoing video series Living Pictures, initiated in 1992. Each site-specific project involves the artist filming volunteers whom she recruits via classifieds and similar means. She tapes each segment in a single take, then edits it into a larger compilation, creating a group portrait out of individual encounters. Through tightly-framed, frontal portraits shot against minimal backdrops, Living Pictures addresses such issues as immigration, privacy, memory, and the authority of the artist. Then a Retrospective of Paintings and Drawings by Brice Marden. This exhibition features an unprecedented gathering of the artist's work. Plus a retrospective look at the career of Henry Wessel, one of California's most original photographers. Since first gaining critical recognition in the 1970s, Wessel has continued to draw his inspiration from the aesthetics of the everyday, turning the least monumental of subjects鈥攖raffic lights, advertisements, and suburban homes, among others鈥攊nto a kind of personal poetry. The 4th exhibition features works by Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Jackson Pollock and others.
