I'm trying to plan a trip to CA for 7 evenings? Beginning in San Fran, down to San Diego, any good iteneries? |
Travel Info beaches and theme parks, traveling with One year old toddler. Traveling at the latter part of March 2007. Flying into San Francisco. Travel Tips You pretty much won't find any beaches and theme parks until you are in Southern CA. The beaches in Northern CA are really cold, windy, and foggy but they are scenic so if you don't mind the horrid weather I would check them out. The two theme parks in the Bay Area probably wouldn't be fun for a one year old, they are just pretty much roller coasters. Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Sea World, Legoland, SD ZOO, SD Wild Animal Park would probably be good for a toddler. It's not warm enough to swim in the ocean anywhere in CA yet, but at least the beaches in SoCal will be sunny and worth visiting. The southern Orange County coast has nice beaches, especially Laguna Beach. All the beaches in San Diego are beautiful, especially the ones in La Jolla. If you go to the SD Zoo, you will already be in Balboa Park and there are ton's of museums and fun activities there for children. Others i live in san diego but have been to other parts of CA. if possible definitly go to the monterey bay aqairium. in san diego go to la jolla, the presidio, and rueben h fleet science center. say hi to baby for me. Go to www.tripadvisor.com This is a grat place for getting info on places to stay routes and such....I love it. Who better to get info from than those who actully use it! Good luck. With a one year old....don't try to see everything, it will be too stressful. The most scenic drive is down Highway 101/1. In Santa Cruz, visit the Long Laboratory which is part of the UC Santa Cruz campus but located on the coast. They have hands on sea creatures that my kids loved when they were young (sea anemones, star fish, etc.). There is a coastal amusement park right on the beach in downtown Santa Cruz with some cute "kiddie" rides as well as large roller coasters. This is a laid back community where you can spend a day. If you are into wine tasting, there are many wine regions along the route from San Francisco to San Diego. Check out http://www.cheers2wine.com for info on wineries in each region of California. In San Diego....I'd recommend the Wild Animal Park in Escondido....it's a fun place and they have a tour that lets you easily see most of the animals as you ride along the guided tour. For suggestions on things to do in San Diego go to http://www.sandiego-romantics.... I'd drive to the top of Mt. Soledad in La Jolla to check out the city view. Also....take a ride of some kind of the bay. Real California is inland. The beaches are nice but there is nothing like the Sierra Nevada mountains. san jose and monterey would be pretty nice |
