Monterey Bay aquarium ....? |
Travel Info i am gonna visit monterey bay aquarium this coming weekend with my family. For the peopl that have been then before and know alot about that area ... can you please tell me .. where can i find good all day parking .. and where can we walk to that is walking distance .. also good resturants that are goood! any info would be great. the last time ive been there was wayyyyyy long ago when i was about 10 .. and now im gonna be taking my lil girl there. Travel Tips I just went there last Sunday, and we didn't know where to park either beforehand. We just winged it and followed the signs. The parking sign for the nearest garage were very clear. No worries. As for restaurants, we went to the Thai restaurant next to the aquarium, and it was very good (forgot the name but you can't miss it), good portions, and very tasty. Also, the cafe in the aquarium is quite decent - garlic fries, hamburgers, hot dogs, salads. Have fun! We had so much fun last weekend! Don't forget to see the 4PM fish feeding in the 3-story high aquarium - quite an experience in itself! Others There are a few garages in that area, many are about the same price. Most of the time, I've taken a taxi from my hotel or found street parking which, if memory serves me, is 5 cents a minute. There are lots of fun places around the area, just go up and down the street. Everything is in reasonable walking distance. My favorite restaurant there is the Fishhopper or Sly McFlys. I think both are good for kids. The Fishhopper has a beautiful view of the ocean where sometimes you can find otters. I try to never leave Monterey without some of their clam chowder. If you look at those tourist brochure stands, you might be able to find a coupon for this place for a free appetizer. Sly's has a busier atmosphere and sometimes has live music at night. It may be better for kids if yours tend to be a little jumpy and it has more kid friendly food. Try the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company for dessert. Cannery Row has a few cute shops, unique jewelry, souvenirs, and toys. I forget the name, but across the street from the restaurants I mentioned is an arcade with a merry-go-round. I recommend getting one of those tandem bikes and taking a ride around the area. There's also a wax museum. Have a great time in Monterey! It's one of my favorite places. Try to make it to the shark feeding and the other fish feedings at the aquarium. There are a couple parking garages near the aquarium, and metered street parking. For a meal with a view, there's the great restaurant built out over the water. Try to order their abalone. Other places and things in Monterey--Cannery Row, and a sort of amusement park across the street from it. Larkin House Museum--the residence and office of the US Consul in Monterey when it was the capital of Mexico's California Province. The 17 mile drive along the coast. |
