Why are people in SF and the Bay Area so pretentious? |
Travel Info I've read these two articles in the Contra Costa Times that I think totally capture the pretentiousness and keeping up with the Jones' attitude that is so prevelant here. People in Nor Cal try to claim Southern Californian's are fake, well isn't that the kettle calling the pot black. Travel Tips I smell a Karl Rove "Divide and Conquer" talking point, so I'll get straight to the point: There's really no difference between Northern California and Southern California. Whatever differences we have with one another are not defined by something as ridiculously simple as an imaginary line through Fresno. I find that places like the Hamptons on the east coast are by far worse than the bay area in terms of pretentiousness. And who said that was a bad thing? Superficial/fake is not the same thing. In So Cal there is this total air of superiority that I do not feel up here in Nor Cal. So what if we are tree hugging liberals who like fine wine and cars? We think that So Cal is fake because it is the land of plastic surgery sheep following the Paris Hilton style of life. And yes, you can tell the difference between the crap that is two buck chuck and a regular wine. The winery is one of my clients and they have even made the comment that it is a more "watered" down style of wine that some of their other brands. I can generally tell when I am drinking it. Big deal. People are just people. Just blow it off. Sometimes people think they are a little more important than they really are. Just know they are just like you regardless of what they think! They have more in common than they think, Nor Cal and So Cal. |
