Has anyone been to ukiah, ca? |
Travel Info Has anyone been to ukiah, ca? Travel Tips yeah. there is a spa outside of town, I forget the name. Others lived there for three years when I was younger and my dad still lives there so I visit several times a year. It's a beautiful LITTLE town (about 15,000 people) nestled in a nice valley. There isn't much to do there at all and I would never live there again for that reason. There is Lake Mendocino, but if you are going in winter it's too cold to go out there. Pretty much all there is up there for tourists is wineries. Camping and boating are popular during the summer. Hiking in the redwood forests nearby is also something to do up there. There really isn't much to do in town, there are some restraurants and bars, but not many or really nice ones. Hopland, 15 miles south of Ukiah, has some cool little shops and this solar store that is worth checking out. There are several indian casinos in the area too. from my point of view it's pretty boring and lame, but I'm a city boy and don't really care for small towns, but if that's your thing then you might like it. I have been there. There isn't too much in Ukiah itself, but there is lots of interesting stuff around Ukiah in Mendocino County. You could go to the mountains, or over to the coast, or follow the Eel River. There are some nice small towns in Mendocino County. There is Redwood National Forest and Redwood National Park to the north of Ukiah. There are some wineries around Ukiah. We take a day trip by car from SF once in awhile and go to Hopland. First we stop very briefly at an Indian Casino to grab a bite to eat etc. and then go on to the Buddhist Monastery. Sorry, haven't tried their food. For us, it is an enjoyable drive to get out of the city for one day. There is a parking lot near the main office and gift shop. Wear modest clothing (not shorts) and if the weather is hot, bring bottled water and umbrellas for sunshields, so you can tolerate walking around the grounds. The religious organization took over a site that was once a state mental institution. We always go to the book store and into the temple to pay respect to my inlaws. If you are into wines, many wineries in the region and places to get some food. http://www.gomendo.com/wineries/maps/drh... |
