Travel Info What is an accurate description of what the city of Oakland, California looks like? Travel Tips Depends on what part of Oakland. Like most cities there is a good side and a not so good side. Yes, there is crime and a lot of it but in the hills a lot of wealthy people live there. Lake Merritt is very pretty with Childrens Fairlyland plus the Oakland Zoo is wonderful. Other Travel Tips very dirty bums whores all over lots of cops. hot all year round street gangs. hey youre talking california. land of fruits and nuts.. ohh dont forget about the drive by shootings and car jackings lived there 2 years god bless the east coast I was born in Oakland and lived 30 miles south of it most of my life. So I am familiar with it. Oakland is like an old beat up car that still runs. It screams (I need a new paint job, I need a new engine, I need this, I need that)... and you consider the good times... you consider all the mileage you got out of it... but then reality hits you and you remember when it left you stranded on the side of High Street in the middle of the night, scared to death, gunfire in the air... that homeless dude ducking alongside you behind old bessy.... and you remember when the radio was stolen while you were having dinner at the Che-Chin because the door locks didn't work anymore... and then you come to your senses and say - Why Bother ! That's Oakland. Ok, I'm guessing you've never been and perhaps want to visit. Lord I hope you aren't planning a move there. Oakland is one of the dirtiest cities if not the dirtiest city in the all of Northern California. The crime/murder rate in Oakland is out of control. It's a nice place to drive through with your windows rolled all the way up and your foot on the gas.. If you are travelling to Northern California, go to San Francisco instead, it's crowded but beautiful, especially if you are into art. If not there, head to Mendocino, where beauty abounds. Hope this helps. It can look pretty from the freeway, but that's it. Oh, and the airport is cheaper than SFO. Crime, drugs, vandalism, murder, it's on the news everyday. It's like the Detroit of California. Don't send your kids to school there or they'll get raped or murdered. So it looks pretty from a distance, but just pass through it and go somewhere else. |
