San Francisco: Pros & Cons? |
Travel Info In your own opinion what are the pros & cons of San Francisco? The good and the bad? Travel Tips Pros: - Beautiful and Atmospheric Hills - High Density, Pedestrianized Streets - Excellent Public Transportation - Interesting Arthitecture and Skyscrapers - World-Class Food - Egalitarian, Laid-back, and Friendly Nightclubs - Famous Universites (Berkeley, UCSF Medical Center, and Stanford) - Redwood Forests, Wine Country, and Ski Resorts Nearby Cons: - Homelessness is Epidemic - Rising Crime Rate - Corrupt Local Government - Overcast/Rainy/Icy Winters - Overzealous Traffic Cops and Lack of Parking - Earthquakes - Ocassional Terror Scares Others Pros are good transportation and a nice Bay and lots of hills wich I miss and lots of things to do there and close to Berkley. Cons is price of living and earthquakes SFDude got it mostly right, with the exception of "occasional terror scares." The latest "scare" we had was the police stopping a group of elderly protestors from crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, as they were considered a security risk. The worst weather we have is in the summer--dreary, foggy and windy. Winters are normal--cold and rainy. I'm revealing a deep, dark secret here, but the nicest time to visit SF is September/October. SF crime is mostly property crime--burglaries, robberies, larceny. The murder rate has dropped significantly in the past couple of years; there were 88 last year. Good: liberal, healthy people...There is an article in Self magazine about the safest/healthiest cities in the U.S. and San Francisco is in the top 5....I'll go re-read the article and tell you exactly what is good about it. It is near the ocean. That's a plus. The only con I can think of is that San Francisco County is VERY populated. Pros: umm....lemme think, well my job pays good (or else I would've left already), and Golden Gate Park is nice, oh and the Yellow Submarine sandwich shop! Cons: traffic, rude people, people everywhere, polution, overpopulation, much too much development, no trees, homeless, lack of employment, cost of gas, did I say traffic (all day everyday even on weekends), to find good old mother nature you must drive at least 1/2 hour, cost of housing, the need to keep up with the Jones' I probably forgot a few things, but there you have it Pros: Good weather, beautiful city, good restaurants, excellent public transit. Cons: high cost of living, no parking, multitudes of non-English speaking ppl (who want to know why you don't speak their language). If you want to live in SF, go for it. You're only young once. Though it can be expensive, the wages are higher there and you can still find discount stores and cheaper (but not dirt cheap) gas.You will find that every city has both good and bad points. |
