Is San Francisco's Castro district dangerous? |
Travel Info I have been to union square, financial district and fisherman's warf but I would realy like to visit the Castro district on my next trip. I am aware of it being the homosexual district hence my interest in visiting it; however, I am not sure if it is safe as some folks had said to stay away from the southern areas of the city. Travel Tips The Castro district is perfectly safe. It is a really nice area. Don't let stupid ignorant fools ruin your opinion of an area, go there and decide for yourself. The mission and richmond districts are not very safe but the castro is fine. There is always some danger in larger cities because there are so many people you don't know who is who and who is going to do what so just go live your life and do what you want to do and go where you want. There are shootings and other crimes in nice areas too so don't be too worried about what district you are in, especially the castro- it is safe as anywhere else you have been. Source(s): live ten minutes from sf i'm there all the time and have been all around the city many times Other Travel Tips Don't let any strangers stick anything in you If you drop your keys, just kick your keys,, kick them untill your out of the catro. SF native. Ok, first off ignore the little boys who think gay men are going to rape you if you bend over to pick up your keys. That is their sick fantasy, not yours. Castro district if perfectly safe. Very friendly, lots of bars and restaurants to enjoy. My personal favorite bar in the Castro is the Mix on 18th at Castro. A friendly neighborhood pub with a pool table, a grill and patio out back. If you want something upscale try 2223 Market or Mecca at Church and Market. Both great clubs with a cool vibe and great food. The Castro theater is an art house, lots of classic film and independent film fests. Enjoy! Occasionally its the "outsiders" who may make it dangerous at night when there's alot of parties or neighborhood-wide celebrations going on. |
