San Francisco Life?

Travel Info
I have always heard that living in San Francisco is sooo expensive....but how expensive?....like how much per month?....and is it any worse than anyother cities?....and where should i not live?...i have heard that the tenderloin and hunters point are the bad areas of San Francisco....anyone have any input...

Travel Tips
Yes it is expensive in San Francisco. Rent is between $1,500 and $2,500 a month for a decent 1-2 bdrm apt. You'll save money on transportation, because their mass transit system kicks butt and owning a car in SF is unnecessary, but even if you did a lot of apt. hunting, you'll still need to have a reliable and adequate source of income. You DO NOT want to mess with the Tenderloin or other seedy areas of SF. Not only are there scary Public Housing projects there, but the drugs and violence are rampant. If you can afford it, though, SF is a wonderful city full of great people, diversity, history, culture, and class. Good luck!

I lived there 1975 to 1977 I loved it then... don't know how it is now ......but will remember it always .....and no matter where you go or when, there's gonna be good and bad, so remember acquire all the experiences you can, as they will serve you always for the rest of tour life....I've lived and worked all over the US...it's the way you learn about life..........never will it be taught in school....good luck...good fortune
true san francisco is very expensive. it is in fact the most expensive in the US. the rent for a very tiny, crappy , studio in a bad district with no bathroom or shower( the building has comunal wash rooms that are very dirty) is around 1500 dollars. if you or anyone else is moving there i sugest living in nearby cities like berkeley. but avoid suburbs and oakland which is the most terrible city in the world. berkeley will give you more for you money and you can rent a great apt in a nice district like west berkeley ( near 4th street shopping area) with 2 bedrooms and views of the bay. you will also be in a really safe city with the most intellectual people in the US. transportation is very well done in berkeley. there is a bart station nearly ever mile or 2. bus stops are ubitquitous as are the buses them selves.

living in san francisco is not very great if you are not a billionare or millionare because the money regular people earn can not possible pay for the rents. also sf is a tree less , crowded, and hilly city. there are no district that are nice even the rich ones.

berkeley however gives you trees , great schools, transporationt , a intelectual comunity, and friendly people and shops where you can sign for your groceries.
Tenderloin and hunters point are the bad areas, don't go there unless you want to buy some crack or a hooker (and the sex of the hooker will always be questionable ;). The Pacific Heights, North Beach, some parts of South San Francisco are good places to live but be prepared to shell out at least 2000 a month for a decent apartment. Sometimes it can go as high as 4000 a month for the really nice ones, I personally love the areas all around golden gate park but it is kind of creepy, beautiful but creepy. The nightlife is excellent for those who like to party, North Beach and Little Italy have some great clubs. The restaurants are amazing, I love The House of Nanking for chinese food, Equinox for the view, Crustaceans for the sea food. There is also the War Memorial Opera house for the symphony, ballet, or opera. And tons of museums. All in all it's a good place to live.
You can find decent 1 br apts in the Richmond and Sunset neighborhoods for 1100 and up. These are nice residential neighborhoods. The bad areas you heard about are bad. Search Craigslist to check out rents in different neighborhoods:

SF is a GREAT city to live in. You should definitely try it.
I had stayed in San Francisco in November and December of 2005. It is the city in California with the highest tax at 8.5%, heard that it is already 8.75% at present.
Parking is expensive but Muni buses are available. You can ride a Muni bus and transfer to another Muni bus as long as it is within 2 hours. Keep your ticket.
Residents of San Francisco usually shop at Daly City because parking is better there. You can get cheaper rooms there. Look also for houses in which they have their rooms rented. It is usually cheaper.
I had accompanied my friend when we were in Concord. It is located in the Contra Costa County! Rental there is around $1,200+++. Try looking also at the Contra Costa County which includes Antioch, Concord, Pittsburgh, Martinez! Berkeley is also a nice place. As adviced earlier, get out of Oakland! Residents of these areas working in San Francisco usually park their cars in the BART stations. However, park carefully, the husband of my cousin came back from work with the windows of his car broken.
