San fran living?

I have an opportunity to move to San Fran in 2 months when I graduate. I have visited many times, but never for a long period of time. If i believe i can afford 1500 or so a month rent( I dont mind it being small), what are good areas to live? and are there good sites to see properties(besides craigslist)?

I am young and want to live in the city, and preferably close to social/bar/music/ night life action as possible....

S.F. Dude is right. Good answers! Lot's of nice places.. Rent is high,but you can find something nice. I prefer the avenues, sunset.

$1,500 will allow to live in some of San Francisco's best neighborhoods, if you're willing to settle for a studio.

Russian Hill and the Marina should be well within your reach. They're both nice, upscale areas. Russian Hill is more atmospheric than Marina (quaint stairways, cable cars, leafy streets, etc.), but the Marina is closer to the water.

If you're lucky, you might even find a place in Pacific Heights for that price. You'll have the likes of Robin WIlliams, Gordon Getty, Diane Fienstein, and Nancy Pelosi as your neighbors, if that's the case. Though, as you can imagine, it's a bit of an elitest enclave.

I'd also look at the South Beach/Mission Bay area. This is a new neighborhood (used to be abandoned warehouses), but it is definitely on its way up. Highrises are being built left and right. AT&T Park is nearby. And it is also demographically younger and closer to SOMA nightlife than the neighborhoods I mentioned above.
