San Francisco,Ca? |
Travel Info We are planning on going to SF this summer, can anyone suggest good hotels to stay at and thier prices and also tell me about the China Town there.? Your input will be invaluable. Thanks so much, Travel Tips Unfortunately, hotel rooms in San Francisco are similar to New York City...small and expensive. A decent chain hotel (Courtyard by Marriott, Best Western) in San Francisco will set you back at least $150.00 a night. Hyatts and other business-class hotels with more amenities will be $200.00 plus. Although there are no shortage of pleasure palaces for the rich in San Francisco, luxury hotels (Ritz, St. Regis, Four Seasons, W, Clift, Mandarin Oriental, etc.) are very pricey. They tend to run $300.00 to $600.00 for a standard room. San Francisco has a very large Chinese community, so there are actually two Chinatowns. There's the touristy, historic Old Chinatown (which is concentrated around Portsmouth Square). And then there's New Chinatown in the Richmond District (the epicenter is Clement Street). New Chinatown has better restaurants and more useful shops. However, Old Chinatown is of more interest to visitors because of the temples, alleys, and urbanity. There are also (much smaller) Chinatowns in Oakland, Cupertino, and Milpitas, if you're heading out to the suburbs. Others This is not related to your question, but make sure you pack warm clothes when you visit Sf since summers there are very cold! Someone wrote earlier about possibly visiting SF and said the Argonaut Hotel in Fisherman's Wharf near the Embarcadero looked good. I checked the reviews on tripadvisor.com and he was right. Then there is the Handlery Hotel on Geary St. in the Union Square area. The Travelodge out at Fisherman's Wharf is an older motel but it looked interesting. We walked to Chinatown from there. Also nearby in the same area is the Marriot Hortel. I think that it is Columbus St. that takes you from Fisherman's Wharf to Chinartown if you like to walk. If you are staying a few days, you could purchase a MUNI Passport for unlimited rides. I live out here by the Seal Rock Inn in the Outer Richmond District not too far from New Chinatown shopping district on 6th Ave. & Clement area. At Geary near 33rd Ave. we catch the electric bus to Chinatown. If you plan to drive, there is plenty of parking out in this area. For street parking, always read the signs posted to make sure it isn't restricted for street sweeping -- or if it is for residential parking, you can only stay 2 hrs.. http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mhome/home50.ht... http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mfares/fareinfo... |
