Parking at Golden Gate Park, SanFrancisco? |
Travel Info I am driving by car to Golden Gate Park, SanFrancisco (which has several musems). Can someone please let me know, if parking will be available close to the park and how expensive it is ? I am driving on Saturday. Any other cheaper alternative ? Travel Tips The new deyong museum in GG Park has a parking structure. Here is the info from their web site: Parking Concourse Parking Facility Parking for cars and bicycles is available in the Concourse parking facility. Access to the north entrance is from Fulton St. at 10th Ave. Access to the south entrance is at Concourse Dr. and Martin Luther King Dr. inside the park. The Concourse parking facility is open seven days a week year-round and parking in the garage is encouraged. Hours and rates: Monday鈥揊riday 7:30 a.m.鈥?0 p.m. ($2.50/hour) Weekends 7:30 a.m.鈥?0 p.m. ($3.00/hour) Limited parking is available on John F. Kennedy Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. JFK Drive is closed on Sundays. You can also park on the streets near the park, but parking laws are in effect so make sure you read the signs! Others Saturdays the park is not closed to cars. (Only on Sundays, JF Kennedy Dr. is closed down at it's Eastern end.) They charge too much to park in the garage. You still have to pay to get in to the museum, the Tea Garden, and eating in the De Young cafeteria style restaurant. Arboretum across the street is still free. If you park for free, at least you aren't worrying about the time you are racking up-- unless of courxe, you want the convenience of parking in the garage then that's a good option. Go in to the park: You can either park on John F Kennedy Dr. (behind the De Young (it's free) or on Martin Luther King Dr. (it's free). We like to drive up to Stow Lake, park and walk around the lake during the day. It is a one mile walk. But you can park up there to go to the museum, too. Drive up and park --the road pretty much circles the lake. Parking is free. On the web site map attached, you see the #18. Standing there, looking down from the lake area, you see the De Young. It's a huge, modern building that looks like something an air traffic controller might feel feel at home in. If you park near there, you will find a path & steps that takes you down to just behind the Japanese Tea Garden which is next door to the De Young Museum. http://www.sfgate.com/traveler/graphics/... |
