What are good places to see in San Francisco and what area is the most desired areas to stay? |
Travel Info Am going to visit in May for 2 days. It is my first visit to San Francisco. Travel Tips I had been in San Francisco in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season in 2005. It is the most expensive place in California with a tax of 8.5%. I heard that it is over 8.75% at present. First ride a cable car at Powell Street. Be ready with your camera or video! it will stop at the postcard view of Alcatraz. This cable car heads straight to Fisherman's wharf. It is better to start the day over there and have lunch at Pier 39. Before lunch, find out first the double decker tour of the city. After lunch, you will just be in time for the trip. There are souvenirs too at that area. The trip is not only within the city but also nearby areas such as the Golden Gate, the wine counties like Napa and Sonoma, Moneterey, Sausalito, etc. This double decker bus will stop over near the entrance to Chinatown, you can get down over there and explore this famous Chinatown. You can have many options to buy souvenirs too. You can choose a miniature cable car, t-shirts, postcards, etc. Dont forget to buy a map of San Francisco before your trip and go over to Yahoo travel. Go over travel guides and see the cities under USA, San Francisco is under that. There are top 10 attractions and their exact locations. There is also a slideshow of the places to see in San Francisco. I also suggest that you take the BART also down Powell street where the you had lined up for the cable car. There is also a visitors area down that area. The BART is the Bay Area Rapid Transport system which will bring you over San Francisco and the neighboring Contra Costa County. These includes Oakland, Concord, Martinez, Antioch and alot more. Try exploring these areas if you have the opportunity. We usually shop at Daly City which is just a bus ride away from San Francisco. I cant forget going at Berkeley where my friend brought me for lunch. There is a restaurant there over looking the bay bridge. It is nice! When riding the muni bus, you can hop in other muni bus as long as it is within 2 hours of your ticket. Others Union Square, for sure, the Hilton used to be a deal, Sir Francis Drake is a lot of fun. Shop it, but there is so much to see, you will not be stuck at home. I would highly recommend going north of the bridge and there is a hill that you can go up. it's the best point in the entire world, my fave actually. from the hill you can see the entire bridge with the city in the background. You should check out the Loews complex (Metreon theatres) |
