Others running haha just kidding......but for real, rolling there I would suggest using the Amtrak train from SF to Merced and thruway bus to Yosemite. The ride is really nice and they offer an easy bus connection from the Merced station into the park. If you want to use public transport then you had better have a lot of time on your hands. By car, and if you don't have one then rent one for the day, take I80 out of the city and stay to the right at the far end of the bridge then follow the signs for I580 East. After Livermore take 205 through Tracy then I5 north for a very short time until 120 south of Manteca. You need to take 99 north for 1 exit before resuming 120 again. 120 takes you in to the park, but you need to stay right on 140 to go down into the valley. Set off at 6am and you can do the round trip in a day, including seeing the main sights. Actually, at this time of year you can see everything that's open since the higher mountain roads are closed until the snow clears. This is about the best time for the falls, on warm spring says the snow melts rapidly. In summer and winter the falls practically vanish. |
