Remember, Berkeley is the location of the University of California campus. You and tens of thousands of students, undergraduate and graduate, and staff and faculty, are looking for the same 1-bedroom apartments. And because the city has rent-control ordinances, it makes it very very difficult to find apartments within miles of that area. You might try areas further away, but accessible from BART, the Bay Area Rapid Transit, which has two stations in Berkeley. Sorry I could not be more encouraging, but friends of mine have just gone through this same search. Heavy demand, small supply and high rents in the area forced them far away from Berekey. Others I hope you are a communist.......otherwise, you won't exactly fit in. You can rent rooms or in-laws in Berkeley hills. You may also want to check out Albany and Kensington. |
