Does anyone know of any cheap and cute places to stay on the northern california/central/bay area coast?

can you narrow down exactly where you are looking. To me your n.ca/bay area coast, can be anything from mendocino to monterey.

coast wise I love tomales bay/point reyes.

and unfortunately nothing on the coast is cheap.

if you'd like to go further south, Pismo Beach, about 3 1/2 hours south of San Francisco is great for being on the beach and still relatively affordable.
