All about Sun Yet-san? |
Travel Info All about Sun Yet-san? Travel Tips Dr. Sun Yat-Sen is revered as the "Father of Modern China" by both the right-wing nationalists and leftist communists. He was one of the leaders of the revolution against the Manchus in 1911. He also traveled extensively in the West to study. And he had planned to use those new ideas to introduce democracy into the Chinese system. Although Dr. Sun lived in San Francisco for only a few years, he was known to have written some of the most documents related to the Chinese Revolution right here. These include the "Three Principles", in which Sun argued that China needed: 1- Freedom from imperialist domination 2- Western constitutional government 3- Social welfare and justice There is a statue of Sun Yat-Sen in Portsmouth Square. There's a local Chinese newspaper named after him as well. Unfortunately, his old apartment was leveled during the construction of the Transamerica Tower. However, the Chinese Cultural Center does have some artifacts from his time in San Francisco. |
