Student thinking of travelling to San Fransisco for 8 days... What can I do? As much as possible!? |
Travel Info Hello, I'm looking to visit san fran with a couple of friends before I return to uni. I'll be coming over for 8 days, and wish to fit in as much as possible... I'm not looking for things to do within the city itself, as I can ask my parents...read books etc, but, firstly after working all summer...i would want a day out to chill...beach or something...is there anywhere where we could go, thats relatively close (public transp) where we could fit in a few hrs on the beach? How far is mexico from san. fran? is it worth going that far? what else would be worth doing with such a short period of time? cheers! Matt Travel Tips San Francisco is in Northern California and not even close to Mexico. You might want to take a day trip to Marin County which is just across the Golden Gate Bridge. Maybe go hiking on Mount Tam (Tamalpais) or visit the Muir Woods. There are tour busses that can get you there. As for beaches, this isn't anything like Southern California. It can be rugged and windy along the coast, but check out Stinson Beach. You could also take a 1-2 day trip down to Carmel or Monterey, but that's at least a two hour drive. Source(s): Have lived in San Francisco and Marin for the last 25 years. Other Travel Tips read about the city learn about BART see much San Fran isnt known for its beaches but if you travel a bit further down the coast it gets better (obviously LA has some great beaches). By greyhound, it took me (from memory and it was 6 years ago!) 10 hours from SF to LA and Mexico is even further. However, you could think about an flight from SF once you get there? Think generally theyre quite cheap. If you're going to SF to meet people etc, then fair enough. If not, id consider renting a car and just driving down the coast from SF and finding the beaches a long the way.... Or if theres no specific reason for SF, id choose La or Vegas for chilling out/ rewarding yourself for your hard work! Santa Monica is beautiful and Vegas is brilliant: chill by the pool all day, party at night. Hve fun regardless!! I'd use trip advisor. There are a couple of beaches in San Francisco. One is baker beach- which is a mile long with great views of the Golden Gate bridge. Depending on when you are going, keep in mind that SF can get cold, especially in the summer due to the fog. Wear lots of layers as the temp will change throughout the day. Las vegas and LA are both about an 1 1/2 flight away for warmer weather and you could always do a tour of the wine country which is beautiful. I wouldn't bother with Mexico on such a short trip... SF is a nice walking city and very beautiful with excellent food. Make sure you eat a lot of mexican food! You could chill on the beach at Santa Cruz just a bit South West of SF on I17. Mexico is not really on the radar, it's about 500mi+ South unless you are planning to go to LA in which case it's only a couple of hours drive from there. Although the Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART) is good you really ought to look into cheap car hire. When you've finished chillin' try Great America amusement park or Raging Waters Theme park near San Jose to get the adrenaline going again. |
