Camping at Mt Tamalpais in San Francisco? |
Travel Info We are traveling to San Francisco next month, and are hoping to camp at Mt Tamalpais. We would like to visit the cit, and will have a car, however would like to know what the best (cheapest, fastest) option is for getting into and out of the city. Thanks. Travel Tips Your rental car is the best way to get to Mt. Tam from the city. Parking is $6.00 a day (which is pretty reasonable). Otherwise, you'll have to take Golden Gate Transit...most of their buses stop next to the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza and the Financial District. It doesn't actually take you up the mountain though, so you'll have a challenging hike if you take public transit. http://www.goldengatetransit.org/schedul... Others Public Transit for getting anywhere north of san francisco sucks. your rental car is your best option. It's fairly easy to get to, maybe a half hour from the bridge. Definitely take the ferry into and out of the city! My husband and I were just there last fall on vacation and we stayed in the Mt. Tam area. We took the ferry from the Sausaltio, which is a short 10 minute drive. From the ferry dock in San Francisco, you can take the street cars about anywhere, or walk from there.
