Where to stay on a road trip between LA and San Francisco? |
Travel Info Going to take a week this summer and drive from LA to San Francisco. Any advice on nice places/hotels/bed breakfasts to stay would be greatly appreciated. We're planning on picking 2-3 towns and staying about 1-2 days at each town. Travel Tips I'd suggest stopping in Santa Barbara ... http://www.santabarbaraca.com/ ... then San Luis Obispo ... http://www.sanluisobispocounty.com/... ... and plan to spend several days on the Monterey Bay exploring Monterey, Carmel, Capitola, and Santa Cruz. http://www.ci.santa-cruz.ca.us/... http://www.monterey.org/ http://www.carmelcalifornia.com/... http://www.ci.capitola.ca.us/ Others Call for cancellations at Yosemite National Park. If you can't get any, there are plenty of places to stay. Are you driving up the coast or going on highway 5? If it's the coast I'd say Santa Barbara and Monterey/Carmel. If you're taking a week to do this drive, it must be along the coast. Along 5 it only takes 5 hours and there isn't any place you'd want to stay there. Along the coast, don't miss Morro Bay and Cambria. There is one particularly good B and B there but I can't remember the name at the moment. santa barbara is a nice old school california beach town. nice beaches. san luis obispo is a laid back college town. If you happen to venture there on a thursday they shut down six blocks of down town for farmers market, outdoor bbq and live music. great college town vibe. monterey area is also nice. The whole route from Santa Barbara to SF is wine country. So try stopping in and around Paso Robles. Wild Horse in Templeton is great. Cambria in Santa maria is also nice. Santa Barbara or Monterey...but it doesn't really take very long to get from LA to SF ...you could do it in one day and just stay longer in SF if you wanted to i've done that drive tons and tons of times |
