I'm going to look at a place in San Francisco that's between Fillmore & Steiner is it safe/nice? |
Travel Info It is located at 947 Hayes, which is about a half a block from Alamo Square Park. I was over there the other day and everything close to the park seemed extremely nice, but I don't know what Fillmore is like in that area. Any help would be great. Travel Tips SF can be very odd in geographical-safety terms. "Across the street"...can sometimes make a difference. In answer to your question. That area can LOOK OK. That area can BE OK. Someone might live there for 20 years and suffer no real misfortune. On the other hand, within a 5 block radius around the 900 block of Hayes, I would imagine I have responded to hundreds of assault/violence cases, hundreds more OD situations, and most unfortunately many, many shootings...sometimes with 5 or more victims. Too many young people, trapped in the gang type lifestyle. Source(s): 50,000 911 runs in SF Other Travel Tips Yes, that's a pretty nice area. You're kind of close to the Western Addition, which can be dicey the farther northeast you go. Vandalism, robberies, shootings - it's the Western Addition. My friend who lived there for a few years complained about the young people from the projefcts, the slashed tires, scratched cars, hold up attempts (at least 2), fear she had going out early in the morning (to get to the car so she could drive to work) or in the evening to see a show. But many good people live in that neighborhood too. I think you will be fine. that area is not as bad as the previous poster makes it out to be. Remember San Francisco is a Big City with Big City Problems. You are relatively safe as long as you remain aware of your surroundings and mind your business. That area, Alamo Square is one of the better in the City. Compare it to Tenderloin, Bay View, Hunter's Point, China Basin and Alamo Square is paradise. Ask the other guy how many 911 calls he answered in those neighborhoods to make a valid comparison. Don't take the numbers he quotes as an indication that the neighborhood is unsafe. You might as well move to Hercules or some other far East Bay city to have numbers that are far less than San Francisco. |
