Travel Info What are some must see places in Japantown (San Francisco)? Travel Tips As others have said Japantown is small. If you are staying in the area try this Jazz District at Fillmore and Geary John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room-Blues club, still run by his daughter Rasales just down the block - ethopian food and drink served in a casual "living room" like space. Live music. Florio up Fillmore at about Sutter good food, lively bar scene. Harrys Bar on Fillmore at Bush [more or less] basic bar/california/american food. Lively singles scene. Walk north along Fillmore to Pacific Heights, just a few blocks to see huge houses [does anyone really need 8000 sqare feet of living space] and amazing views of the Bay. Others I'll tell you something. Japantown in SF, although a nice place, is about 3, maybe 4 squares blocks. You will be able to "see" it all, even if you aren't trying very hard. There's not a lot there to see. Some nice restaurants, a little mini-mall. My favorite place is the hardware store across from the Miyako Hotel. Seriously. Some very cool things. Double that on the hardware store...Japanese lanterns...Asian inspired dishes - I bought a bunch and have used them for dessert plates. Also - there is a store in the mall that sells vintage kimonos - the beautiful embroidered kind. I made pillows for my couch out of them - they were a true find. Oh - and there's good sushi :) I just got back from SF.....and as the 1st person said, there is only 3-4 blocks of Japan town left. You can check it out fairly quick. Chinatown however is 11 blocks long and 4 blocks wide. I would suggest Chinatown restraunt and make sure you see the chinatown gate. Hi, Just like what has been said Japan-town is a very small place. Good eats and a few shopping spots. You might want to tour Golden Gate Park and the Japanese Tea Garden. Very good landscaping and the Tea House is a must. You can find your way there on Muni off the Fulton line near 19th Ave. There are a couple of Muni bus lines that will get you close. The Garden is just below Stow Lake. Have Fun Depends on your interests. Bookstore in the Mall Movies at the theatre Hardware stores on Post Japanese supermarket on Post Goodwill on Fillmore |
