I am looking for anyone who is lives in Oakland or from Oakland, to give me a vivid description of the city? |
Travel Info I am doing some research on this area and would appreciate it GREATLY for some assitance. Thanks. Travel Tips I'm from there. Oakland like most cities has its good and bad. North and East Oakland are more poor and industrial areas. North Oakland is a major port for California and it has few ghetto neighborhoods. Central and West Oakland are nice areas. Lake Merrit area in West Oakland is the nicest residential area in Oakland. Central Oakland is more semi-metropolitan, but seeing how San Fransisco is minuets away it isn't really much to do or see. Also in south Oakland is Oakland airport. It's domestic flights only. Oakland has nice mountains too and the last few winters they have gotten some snow! Oakland is a nice city in general and a nice place to live. It's not as bad as most think. Others parts of it are yuppified with lots of hipster white people who go to all the bars-----lots of motorcycle types and rock and roll dudes, but most of Oakland is gangster paradise----thugs hanging out on all the street corners selling crack----hookers everywhere, black and mexican gangs in different areas---some of the worst and scariest high schools in the country, the kind of city where you can get jumped walking down the street anytime. The only white people brave enough to live in the worst parts of Oakland are scary punk rockers. Oakland is split in two. East of hwy 580 and south of hwy 24, it is a very wealthy area with some of the best views of the bay. Outside of that area, it is terrible. There is no middle class in Oakland anymore; they were driven out by the high cost of living WITH the high crime. The schools are terrible. Prison gangs are very active. In half of the city you can get jumped at any time. The worst of the worst is around the Port of Oakland, and the Coliseum where the A's/Raiders play. 16 years of living in Oakland |
