Best sites to see in san fransisco...? |
Travel Info i'm going on a day trip... where are the most fun and best places to visit? Travel Tips I always liked this question, or helping tourists find what really is "san francisco" to people who live and work there, versus what some book might tell you. #1. Twin Peaks - this is a MUST SEE!! you will be very lucky if the weather is good but always be prepared for San Francisco's changing weather. When you go to the top of Twin Peaks, you can see everything on a clear day. You can see the ocean, the bay and everything all over the city. I think it is a great starting point. And it is totally free! Take a camera and if you can, make sure you hike from the lookout to the top of one of the peaks. It get's very windy up there, but it is so worth being at the very top and being able to see such beauty. #2 Mission Dolores - it is the oldest building in San Francisco, a great place to see the history and to go on a self guided tour of a beautiful church and a very unique cemetary is attatched to it. The last time I was there, I think it was like $2. to get in. #3 Golden Gate Bridge - of course! And when you go, be sure and walk across it. It is pretty easy to do and something you will never forget. #4 Golden Gate Park - seriously one of the most beautiful places in the country. Check out the Japanese Tea Garden, the botanical gardens and a new art museum has reopened there... i forget the name! #5 This one is a mix... a neighborhood tour. You should try and spend some time checking out the historic and ecclectic neighborhoods while there. I would suggest the Castro, the Haight, the Presidio (beautiful!), the Mission and China Town (but do not eat in China Town... seriously it has the lowest ratings for food places in the entire state!!), Coit Tower - you can go to the top and have very cool views! My last piece of advice is totally AVOID Fisherman's Wharf! It is nothing but a toursit trap and not worth wasting you time in. If all you want is postcard store after postcard store, then have at it. But really, try and avoid it at all costs. Good luck, I am sure you will fall in love with the city. Dress warm as it can be cold, even in the summers! Source(s): lived in San Francisco from 2000-2005 Other Travel Tips Chinatown, fishermans warf, and you can even squeeze alcatraz in too. Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf , ride a trolley Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf Chinatown, golden gate bridge, beach The best place to go to in one day is Fisherman's Wharf area. They have many little touristy shops and you can see the sea lions. There is also a Hard Rock Cafe there. Usually some outdoor entertainment going on also. Great view of the Golden Gate from there also. It is fun to take the cable car there, costs about $5 I believe but a really cool experience! Alcatraz is good also but might take up a couple hours of the day. |
