I am looking to move from N.C. to somewhere in Salinas, CA or another afforable area in Monterey County.? |
Travel Info How is the economy in Salinas? Will I be able to find a job quickly? Is it safe? Be honest! Travel Tips Salinas is an arm pit, why would you move there? Try Monterey proper, Pacific Grove etc.... better to live in smaller place in good location than buy a big house in Salinas. Others Salinas is in what they call "the salad bowl". Lots of big agricultural business. Some people say in Salinas, you are either a Mexican or a Cowboy. While not totally true, it gives you an idea of what it is like. Not sure what the economy is like, likely agricultural and service jobs. I lived in Salinas for 20 Years. It is not very safe at all, there is a HUGE gang problem there. If you look at somebody wrong you may get shot. There are drive by shootings daily and gang related murders all the time. You may have a hard time finding a job if you dont speak spanish, there are a TON or illegal mexicans there and no one speaks english there anymore because its so over run with mexicans that are too lazy to learn the language. Also the gangs are trying to take over parts of town that they think they own and are running everyone out of those parts of town. Having lived there for so long I wouldn't reccomend living there. |
