Good place to go in northern California Oregon area?

Travel Info
We like big trees, winding roads (will be on a sports car), ocean view if possible and maybe under $200 per night. Crater lake lodges were booked and we're looking for some alternative. It will be our 20th aniversary trip with no kids for the first time. Appreciate your help.

Travel Tips
Crater Lake lodge is great, make sure to have dinner at the lodge if possible, it is really good.

After Crater Lake from I-5 take highway 199 just past Grants Pass. This leads through some wonderful big trees, with a river along the road in spots; it is a really pretty drive.

Humboldt Redwoods is one of the best places for huge trees, especially the Avenue of the Giants, don't miss this spot.

Park headquarters and the Visitor Center are located on the Avenue of the Giants, State Route 254, between the towns of Weott and Myers Flat. This is 45 miles south of Eureka and 20 miles north of Garberville off of Highway 101. Weott is 228 miles north of San Francisco on Highway 101. The 32 mile long Avenue of the Giants runs roughly parallel to Highway 101 from Phillipsville in the south to Pepperwood in the north.

Then you head South on Highway 101 until you get to Leggett.
The best road for a sports car is the section of road that starts just off highway 101 at Leggett CA and leads to highway 1. There is 17-20 miles of 10, 15, 20 mph curves the entire way. Recently paved 2-3 years ago for the most part. One of my most favorite roads.

Highway 1 is beautiful and you'll have plenty of great views driving South on this road. We have stayed several times at Gualala, at the Breakers Inn. (39300 S. Highway 1, Gualala, CA, 95445 | 707.884.3200). If you stay mid-week and not on a holiday the rates are better, but we've always hit peak times, but never regretted staying there. Very romantic spot.

Hope you have a great trip, that area is one of our favorites, and we've driven that road many times in our sports car.

Hi,
Take your time, drive North on 101 to Eureka. Spent the night in town and go for Breakfast in Somoa it's an old logging town bunk house kitchen, you'll love it. Now head up the 101 stop at the Giant Redwoods National Park and Preserve. As you cross the border into Oregon head east to Cave Junction and visit the Oregon Caves, this is a great side trip. Now you are close to Grants Pass and a short ride to Crater Lake. You can see Crater Lake and drive around the lake and enjoy the trip in half a day. From here I headed out into Eastern Oregon and the painted desert and a National Monument. If you don't like that idea. Next drive to the Kalmath River. a great scenic drive. Head up I-5 to Eugene this will put you on the road to the Mountains and Three Sisters. Spend the night in Eugene. Drive out the back toward Kalmath Oregon spend the night great driving roads and into California. This next visit will be great the Lave Beds National Monument. There are a ton of places to explore, spend most of the day. Drive next to MacArthur Burnny Falls. You'll have to check your maps for places to stay. Head over to Lake Shasta Area. Now you are on I-5 and heading back down toward Sacramento. Sorry I don't have more my wife and I went all the way to Canada on our 22 day trip.

Redwoods National Park. A few years ago we drove down I-5 to the Grants Pass area and cut over to the coast. Spent the night at the Smith River and toured the Redwoods. Then we went down to San Francisco for a bit and headed back up I-5.

The Redwood forest is awesome!
