Where and when can I find an open air green market in San Francisco ? |
Travel Info And also what are the most common supermarkets in San Francisco ? Travel Tips As Tonalc mentions, the Ferry building market. It does tend to be more expensive. On Wednesday and Sunday there is a farmer's market at Civic Center [8th and Market] that sells fresh produce, fish, and live poultry along with many prepared foods. Alamany Blvd [near Ceaser Chavez] has a daily market. Almost every neighborhood has a produce market. A lot of people [myself included] don't buy most of our groceries in the supermarket. We have many small shops and buy what we need in small quantities. In my neighborhood I have a butcher, a cheese/bulk store, a produce market, a health food store, a liquor store, and 2 small "supermarkets". The big supermarkets are Safeway, Albertsons, Fellettis, IGA, Trader Joes, and Bell Markets. They have a selection of everything [toiletries, cleaning supplies, paper goods] but their price on food is actually higher [in my experience] than the local shops. Others Most common large markets are Safeway, Albertsons. Farmers market: Ferry Plaza, Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10A-2P And a list of some others in the area: http://www.sfgate.com/eguide/food/farmer... Super Markets don't make it well in San francisco. In many areas you are buying at mom and pop stores, which are plentiful. Trader Joe is big too. There are a lot of good cheap resturants and take out places. I used o go over to Clement St and get enough food for two people for two meals for about $8. So really you don't need a car or a fridge. |
