San Francisco - best area to live in?

Travel Tips
most of san francisco is going to be expensive for rent. remember to check craigslist.com for rent, and really for anything you would need or think of.

i think a single woman would do well almost anywhere in the city but here are some cool areas you should look into.

north beach is quite nice, has great restaurants but the feel can be a little snooty at times. the marina district is great but also a tad snooty and will probably be a bit on the high end for rent. you might actually like the castro district, there is everything you would need there and a very central location. check out anything around dolores park, you will love that area and might find some cheaper rent there.

some other nice neighborhoods to look into (but not the best for walking to and from places) noe valley, twin peaks and diamond heights.

if i knew more of what you as a person were like, i could direct you to a neighborhood that would suit you.

the haight is okay and you can find some nice places there, but you have to deal with a lot of homeless kids bugging you all the time! the lower haight is very cool and kind of an unknown area for what it has to offer. crime there would be so so.

most of san francisco is very, very safe. i would not worry about the crime too much out there. the biggest annoance i ever had was with the amount of homeless people all over the city. the police basically just push them from one neighborhood to the next, never really addressing the issue.

neighborhoods to avoid... hunter's point, parts of the mission district, parts of portrero hill, nob hill, bernal heights, outer mission (far from everything!) and there is one i cannot remember right near the downtown... my mind is forgetting the name right now, but stay clear of the downtown! Depends on your definition of "best" and your income.

If money is no object, Pacific Heights, St. Francis Wood, Nob Hill.

For a nice neighborhood feel, Glen Park, North Bernal Heights.

West Portal, Upper Market are also nice.
Marina, North Beach and Noe Valley.
