What's the best location and time to stay in San Francisco? |
Travel Info Im going to be visiting San Francisco in July and I was wondering if the weather is nice there during that time (sunny and warm with no rain) and what area is the best to stay at for tourism and sightseeing....Union Square or the Financial District? Travel Tips I wouldn't want to scare you.. but the most famous quote around here is Mark Twain's "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco"... The rule is: in the summer, there is fog in the morning, and it's cold and moist. Then around noon, it sets off, and the winds rise to about 35 knots, coming from the west (golden gate). At night, pleasant but definitely cold after sunset, lower winds. So I would stay as close to the east bay as possible. You may consider a hotel in Berkeley, it's a 25mn and $6 ride on Bart (local subway system). You won't get as moist and cold at night/morning, and will be centrally located between the east bay and the city. Bart runs until midnight, so you're not deprived of nights out. If you're there for the 4th of july, really consider berkeley - you'll have an amazing view on the fireworks from the marina for example. Best times? hands down, late september/early october - the "indian summer" as they call it. Warm all around, beautiful colors. Others In July, you may have some sun, but it's mostly a bit cold, foggy and windy. There aren't a lot of tourist hotels in the Financial District; stick with the Union Square area. Sshh, don't tell anyone, but the best times to visit SF are early May and late September. Ans :july, THE FINANCIAL DISTRIC. I stayed in Union Square and it was too noisy for me, I would check out Aroguanut Hotel by Fisherman's Wharf. I like San Francisco in October. I used to live there. |
