California. Any advice?

Travel Info
I'm travelling around CA for 3 weeks in July with my girlfriend. I was wondering what sort of things to do. Also any advice on budgeting, hotel costs, fuel and stuff like that. We're both English by the way.

Travel Tips
Things to do/see:
1) Monterey/Carmel - beautiful area with shopping and food. take 17 mile drive (that's what it's calkled) out to pebble Beach golf course.
2) Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - on Friday nights they have free cncerts on the beach.
3) Orange County- Disneyland or Knotts Berry farm - amusemenet parks. Fun, but can be expensive.
4) Sonoma/Napa area- lots of wineries, cheese factories etc - to tour and taste
5) San Diego - Sea World and the San Diego Zoo\
6) San Francisco - The city by the bay is wonderfiul - lots of things to do and see. Hit the embarcadeor for shopping, visit the IMAX theater for a movie on a six-story screen, go to Pier 39 and see the Sea Lions, historic Ghirardelli Square for the best chocolate sundae you ever had. San Francisco has all kinds of art galleries, museums, plays and concerts. You can get half price tickets to some shows in Union Square. Ride a trolley car all over for a great (cheap) tour. Have dinner at the House of Prime Rib on Van ness Avenue. See the Golde Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park (an aquarium there, too).

Stay away from Fresno, Bakersfield and Modesto - way too hot in the summer and no major sights to see.

Gas is currently $3,40 per gallon (US dollars). Expected to go up.

Hotels vary in price depending on how close you are to a major city or site and also how nice you want it to be. I typically stay at Hyatt Hotels which are consistently nice, clean and comfortable. You can do better on orbitz or travelocity.com if you are willing to take potluck.

Good luck!

Santa Monica (outside LA) is a small beach city with beautiful climate and good public transportation. I got a good rate at the Sheraton Delfina. The Huntley Hotel's restaurant on the top floor (Penthouse Restaurant) has great views of the ocean.

Never done it before but you might want to take a train ride from LA to San Diego -- the views could be nice. Also the train rides up north (monterey, SF area) are supposed to be nice. Check out the wineries in Napa and Sonoma up north.
You have to spend a few days in Napa Valley! It's gorgeous here, tons of things to do, wineries, great food, shopping, you get the picture. It's a bit expensive, but I can tell you the cheaper hotels if you don't want to stay at one of those lush spa resort places. (And by cheap I don't mean run down, just ones that don't advertise on websites, just your basic hotel room.) And there's great public transportation if needed. If you'll be here over a Friday there's the Chef's Market in downtown Napa. It's like a farmers market, but there's live bands, wine, and chef's demonstrations. It's really cool, we never miss it.

If you need to know anything else about Napa Valley, let me know! I live here.
Oh well thats dope,Go to San Fransisco I'm from San Fransisco, well the Museum of Fine arts is nice for picnics and picture talking (its in all the movies its not a real museum) fisherman's wharf is fun,pier39,golden gate park, chinatown, walk across the golden gate bridge, there is way too much to do in San Fransisco. BTW we don't like calling it San Fran it is a no no! Great dining in Napa Valley and Saulsalito and Tiburon areas. Try hiking in the Sierras and don't forget Lake Tahoe!! Have fun M8 ( i know your slang!!)
if you want to see beatifull beaches go to monterey/carmel. if you want to go the coolest city ever go to san fransisco. THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO THERE! the BEST FOOD. the BEST SHOPPING. i must warn you that the traffic is really hilarious if you are not driving, yet if you are driving you get really pissy. i live very close and whenever we go there, there are always really funny looking people walking down the street but my sister and i have to be really quiet so that my dad can concentrate. hahaha no i ALWAYS have a good time in SF, be sure to go to UNION SQUARE. there is a SAKS fifth ave, MACY'S (it is like 10 stories too!!!!!) there is a barney's which has the coolest trinkets, its a couple buildings down the street from union square though. there are sooooo many places around that area. then you should go to alcatraz. it is seriously one of the coolest places you will ever go to! take the boat tour around alcatraz and underneath the golden gate it is sooooo fun!! be sure to go to boudin's bakery there is one on every block. the food is kind of bogus but the BREAD! OMG i live for that bread. it is the BEST!. there is actually one bakery next to the warf or in macy's. seriously sf is the place to go... columbus ave is really fun too, next to the trans america building.
California is known for its wineries. There are wineries located throughout the state. The most famous regions are Napa and Sonoma, but there are great wineries in other regions as well. For more info visit: http://www.cheers2wine.com.

The coast between San Francisco and Los Angeles is beautiful and less crowded than the large cities.

San Diego is a beautiful city...clean, beautiful scenery, gorgeous sandy beaches and lots of things to do. Learn more about San Diego at: http://www.sandiego-romantics.com...
