Best R&B club would be John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room at Geary and Fillmore. It is small so get there early.

Or for a larger venue with food try Biscuits and Blues on Mason at Geary
Others
Another one would be Rasella's on Fillmore or even Jazz at Pearl's when Kim Nalley is singing which is normally on Tuesday evenings.
