Travel Tips
Mendocino County offers a beautiful drive along highway 101 (from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco or along the way through Marin and Sonoma Counties.) There are two distinct areas of Mendocino County: inland and coastal. Inland you have Ukiah, the county seat, with museums, theaters, and great restaurants. Willits offers walking tours of the former home of the famous racehorse Seabiscuit (Ridgewood Ranch), a county museum with Pomo Indian crafts (Mendocino County Museum), a railroad museum (Roots of Motive Power), and a fine year-round live theater (Willits Community Theatre) -- as well as several appealing restaurants right on Main St., which is Highway 101.

Take Highway 20 from Willits through the redwoods for a 1-hour drive to Ft. Bragg on the coast. A seaside village with impressive restaurants, art galleries, and and a laid-back sea village atmosphere. Seven miles south is the fabled village of Mendocino, where several movies were shot -- as well as the exterior shots for the long-running TV show, "Murder, She Write." Yes, Mendocino is Cabot Cove! Great galleries, shops, restaurants and spectacular ocean views. The drive along the coast south from there back to the Bay Area is memorable, with numerous little villages and along the way. Alternate routes offer scenic rural areas and wineries. Source(s): www.OpenRoad.TV offers a video guide to the Western U.S. with current emphasis on Northern California. www.GoMendo.com gives you information about attractions and a calendar of events for visitors to all of Mendocino County.

Take a road trip to San Diego. Check out the Road Trips on this site.

Go North to the Humboldt Redwoods, the "Lost Coast" of California. God's country. If some of it isn't wilderness...it might as well be.
Go to Wine Country.. Napa, Sonoma and the Russian River Valley's are all great..
Sequoia National Park is not to be missed. It's so beautiful up there.

There is also the wine country. Touring wineries is fun and interesting.

Half Moon Bay is fun too. There are a lot of tidepools to poke through and they often have various festivals going on.

My personal choice is Yosemite. You would want to stay more than a day, though. There is so much to do and see there. To me, Yosemite is the most beautiful place on earth. Wow!
