I need advice on a holiday apartment in San Francisco.?

Travel Info
I am a Brit looking for a 2 bed holiday apartment for a 7 day family(ish) holiday in San Francisco. We need three bedrooms or two bedrooms and sofa-bed.

I have been looking at these options..

1) http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/califor...
2) http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/califor...
3) http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/califor...
4) http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/califor...

We will probably go for one of the cheaper places but I would appreciate some advice on the location. Are all of these locations okay?

Are there other sources of good holiday apartment listings you can point me towards?

Thanks in advance,

John

Check VRBO....vacation rentals by owner and Redweek...time share short term rentals. San Francisco is a small city with lots of good neighborhoods. It is easy to get from one area to another by cable car, bus or often walking. Be sure to see Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf, Coit Tower and the De Young Museum. Have fun.

You will not find an "apartment" in SF for a seven day rental. You will need a Motel or Hotel. I would advise you to seek a Motel in the Marina District of SF and perhaps rent several "units". The hotels in SF tend to be in the Downtown districts, and are either very expensive or not truly in a safe area, despite what the tourist brochures indicate. I have run 25 years of 911 calls (medic) in SF....stay away from Downtown SF, also known as The Tenderloin District.
All those locations are nice, although I'd avoid the "downtown" one. The Castro/park area is a lovely, well-maintained area. Pacific Heights is very pricey, not too much access to public transportation, shops, etc.

Both PH and Castro have some pretty steep hills for walking.
I'd like to second the recommendation to use VRBO.com (Vacation Rentals by Owner). I have previously used them in the Bay Area, and they are fairly reasonable and more likely to provide you with a "real" living experience, instead of a hotel.

Many of these rentals can be had using a credit card, though some owners will want a check.

North Beach is pretty centrally located, as are Noe Valley and the Castro (for more excitement).
