Livermore, CA?

Travel Info
Hey, I will be relocating to this area and was wondering what are considered the nicer areas of this town? What are considered the not so nice areas? Is near downtown Livermore nice? I have never been here before. I will be up next weekend looking at apartments and would greatly appreciate a nudge in the right direction. Also, if you know any nice complexes the name of the complex and area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

Travel Tips
I used to work for a local apartment rental guide in the Bay Area and I live in the city next door to Livermore (Pleasanton) so I think I can help you with your questions.

It's hard to say what the nicest and not so nice areas of Livermore are because the neighborhoods are so varied. The downtown area tends to be more historic with a Main Street, quaint shops, restaurants and parks. However, you will also find a car dealership, gas stations, liquor stores and other not so quaint establishments dotting the downtown. Keep in mind that Livermore has an active train line running thru it from east to west including thru downtown. Housing around the downtown area consists of some beautiful historic Victorian houses, some post war bungalows and some less than charming, more modern apartments. Mill Springs Park is an apt. community close to downtown, though it is on Railroad Avenue and the trains might be a problem for some. Personally, I would not suggest any of the apartment communities downtown.

Southeast and eastern Livermore tends to be more rural and includes a wine growing/making region and ranches. These areas don't have many apartments or multi-family housing, but do have some million dollar estates and wineries. Chardonnay Gardens is on the fringe of the wine growing region and within walking distance to the Civic Center, Library and shopping, though it is a small apartment community and vacancies may be hard to come by.

Western and central Livermore have the most apartments to choose from. The apartments in Western Livermore tend to be a little older (25+ years old) with more mature landscaping and generally more of a neighborhood feel. The central Livermore apartment communities tend to be newer (less than 20 years old) but the surrounding areas are not, in my opinion, as nice.

One area I don't really have a feel for is Northern Livermore (north of Hwy 580). When I worked at the apartment guide, there was very little development there, but now there's a lot of newer single family homes.

Honestly, it's hard to suggest an area of Livermore for you, not knowing your needs. Are K-12 schools important to you? Do you have a family or are you single? Do you want a lot of amenities--pool, spa, fitness center, fireplace, etc?

If you are flexible and don't need to actually live in Livermore itself, I would suggest you also check out Pleasanton, which is slightly pricier, but generally has a nicer and newer selection of apartment communities and a great, very quaint downtown, and Dublin which is a larger, more sprawling city with a lot of new growth and many businesses. These two cities are a 5-10 minute drive west on the freeway from Livermore. And, if you are going to be working in Livermore, you would have a reverse commute from either Pleasanton or Dublin, so traffic would generally not be an issue (if you work regular business hours). Though Livermore tends to be more affordable housing-wise, of the three, Pleasanton has more top-rated public schools, which generally draws a more affluent population, and is, I believe, the prettiest city in the Tri-Valley.

Hopefully this information is helpful to you. Good luck with your search. By the way, though I don't work for the company anymore, I would suggest when you are in town to stop by a shopping center (grocery store, large drug store or many other retail outlets) and pick up a free copy of For Rent Magazine. It's a good publication to get you started in your apartment hunt. Source(s): Tri-valley resident for 15+ years

livermore is full of indians.
Livermore in general is a pretty decent area, if not a little upper class. I don't know the names of any complexes in Livermore, but from driving through Livermore on frequent occasions, most of the apartments complexes I have seen are decent if not fancy looking. I dont know much more about Livermore's apartments since I dont live in the city, but I hope this helps a bit.
