Is Market St and 8th Street a dangerous neighborhood ? |
Travel Info I'm planning to stay at the Ramada Plaza which is located on Market St at 8th...Is it a safe/dangerous neighborhood ? Travel Tips It's not dangerous, the area just might not be visually fit to one's liking if they're relatively new to the area. I've been living in that area for seven years. There's always going to be a someone who's going to ask you for something. That's just the nature of Market St. One block away at 7th and Market is were all the homeless and people who live off welfare come to have their little swap meet. They're a total nuisance but pretty harmless. I wouldn't recommend going out extremely late. Most likely nothing horrible will happen, but it's best to be safe than sorry. I know I've had my fair share of experiences within that block radius. Odds are you'll be fine. Others It's OK. I wouldn't hang out on the streets late at night. Not the greatest area and definitely bad at night. There is a huge homeless population in the area. I would not recommend it. im not sure but im actually staying there this weekend and i think its a bit of a bad area but not horrble just dont go out late, ha ha see ya around! I can be dangerous at night but you should be find during the day. If you're going out at night make sure to use taxis rather than public transportation to get back there at night. Homeless are a major problem in that area. Preditors prey on them; if you happen to be in the way, when a homeless is attacked, you could become collateral damage. UN Plaza is close by, just off Market, and that is a drug dealing site; again collateral damage. I personally will not walk around that area after dark, but it's OK during daylight so long as you stay aware of your surroundings. I once attended a week long conference at the Ramada Plaza and made it a point to not be outside on the streets around there after dark...as did most of my conference colleagues. Lived in SF Bay Area over forty years. |
