Travel Info Are there any good spots to camp on the sand along the California coast.? Travel Tips The California State Park system has many beaches all along the coast. Some of them have camping. Check here to find one in the area you'll be visiting: http://www.parks.ca.gov/ On the home page, go to the menu in the left column and click on "Find a Park" On that page, go to the right column and, under "Top Searches", click on State Beaches. This will give a full list with location maps and facilities available. You can click on each one for more details. If you belong to AAA, you can get a California Camping Guidebook and campsite maps for free that includes private as well as public campsites all along the Pacific Coast. Check with your local auto association office. Others I believe that Humboldt is pretty good. It is not on the beach, but is very near the coast, in the redwood forest. I would google it and check it out. its near Santa Cruz, that general area. Try Pismo Beach, It does have a good campground there close to the Ocean with lots of sand. There are many good restaurants there also. Try their "Steamers" it is clams cooked in the shell and delicious. The clams come from Oregon and not from Pismo Beach, Also there is great Hot dog stand there I think it was called Missouri Jacks or something like that. Good prices for a great hot dog. Take time to watch the kite flying. Just from my memory bank.
