I'm moving to San Francisco. I'm 28, single, and like a cool social scene. Which neighborhoods should I tour?

Travel Info
I'm a straight single guy... 28 years old. I live in the North End of Boston which is nearby all kinds of cool things going on, and everybody I live near is in their 20's and 30's. Ideally I'd like to be in a place like where I'm at now.. centrally located and near a cool social scene. Which neighborhoods should I look at in San Fran?

Travel Tips
The Marina or SoMa. SoMa is a little grittier and has lots of lofts etc but the Marina is just a little prettier and closer to the ocean. I'd go for the marina if it was me!
Others
Depends on what you like, but every neighborhood has a cool scene pretty much. If your ex frat boy who is looking for ex sorority girls than hit up the Marina. But i mean you can have a good time in North Beach (strip clubs), Mission (good mix of people there), SOMA (some good clubs out there), the Haight, Hayes Valley (good restaraunts).
The straight neighborhood of choice for single yuppies is the Marina District. The main hub is Union Street. Although there's a smaller commercial area on Chestnut Street. Lots of bars.

North Beach (Little Italy) is touristy, but still a lot of fun. Many of San Francisco's straight strip clubs are there. And the Italian expatriate population is always up and about at night. Aside from the strippers, there are lots of bars here too.

Hayes Valley is popular with young families (couples in their 20s and 30s, with kids that are still toddlers). It's quite nice for an evening meal, if not for nightlife.

A more trendy and hip neighborhood is SoMa (South of Market). It's a lot like SoHo in NYC. It has a very diverse population (in terms of wealth, age, race, and sexual orientation). There's a lot of gentrification, even though parts of it are still very gritty in the "abandoned warehouses" style. Nightclub heaven.
It's one thing if you're uppity, but if you're a generally chill dude, Haight is cool, and you mentioned that you're straight, but despite all of the gayness of the castro, it is a pretty cool area too. If you're looking for a good time you should avoid Chinatown, and the Richmond because there isn't much going on, but you should eventually check them out anyway just for the cultural experience. Oh yeah, you also want to avoid Hunters Point, Bay View, and the Tenderloin
The Castro
Cow Hollow, parts of the Mission, perhaps Hayes Valley. Also, Nob/Russian Hill is pretty cool.

The Haight is great if you are into punky homeless kids begging you for drug money as they sit in their fancy jackets and Timberlands. Parts of SoMa are ok, but you want to beware around quite a few parts. If you head more towards south beach and the ballpark, there are lots of young peeps (although, IMO, not much to do).

This city is fairly small, so as long as you stay out of the "outers" (outer Richmond, outer Sunset, outer Mission), you're going to be pretty close to the action.
