Travel Tips This is no put down to you Alix, but Californians find it amusing that so many people ask " What California cities are near the beach and are affordable". California is one of the MOST expensive states to live in, and any property any where close to the ocean is considered "Prime". It is the most expensive of the most expensive. To answer your question truthfully, what you are asking does not exist. Others a tent Well, Alix, I'm afraid that when you are talking about the coast of California that Bic is right. It is expensive in the Bay Area. They are desirable real estate! I'm a California native the east side of the san francisco bay might be your best bet. The best place to live along the coast in CA is San Diego. The most affordable would probably be the far northern CA coast near Fort Bragg and Eureka area's. But SD is expensive, but still cheaper than LA and SF. And the northern CA is really foggy and cold all year and very remote. The best places are not going to be affordable and the "affordable" places will not be the best. Everybody is right Alix...but I know some "secrets". Here is a good rule of thumb, and of course it makes sense. The better the weather...usually meaning South, the more desire able the coastal property. North of SF, and all the way to Oregon, the weather becomes increasingly colder and rainier. "Secrets"...not really. Pacifica, south of SF. Olema, Tomales, Pt.Reyes, Bodega Bay, Jenner, Ft. Bragg.....small communities of the Lost Coast.....Eureka, all North of SF. At each place mentioned there are possibilities of reasonable rentals or small homes for purchase. There are also many small communities near the coast, within 5 to 20 miles, all along the length of Calif. Do be advised...some of the small places along the Calif Coast especially North, such as The Lost Coast, are very remote. It might take a 1 hour twisty ride through primal Redwood Forest just to get to a major road. |
