Best place to Raise kids in the SF bay area? |
Travel Info I would like to find a small town atmosphere, with cheaper rent, good schools, no crime, and freindly people.. Are there any of these kind of towns left in the Bay area? My husband works as a Glazier and so for work reasons needs to be close to on-going building.. or needs to have at the very least a decent commute, any Suggestions.. please,?? Travel Tips Forget ORINDA! I grew up there and will spend the rest of my life recovering from growing up in that elitist cesspool. Others Sacramento? Alameda island has that small town atmosphere. Go there on the 4th of July and enjoy the parade! You will get a good idea of that small town feeling on that day, especially. Some people refer to Alameda as "geriatric", but it has 2 highschools, so it has kids, too. I lived there for a couple of years, and loved it. Some nice, family-friendly, under 30,000 towns in the San Francisco region include: TOWN (POPULATION) Orinda (17,599)* Moraga (16,296)* Lafayette (23,908)* Benicia (26,865)* Suisun City (26,118)* Hercules (24,109)* Sebastopol (7,774) Sonoma (9,128) Cotati (6,471) Windsor (26,011) Burlingame (28,158) Millbrae (20,718) Belmont (25,123) Woodside (5,352) Dublin (29,973)* Los Altos (27,693)* Los Gatos (28,592)* * Close to development areas In addition to these, practically anywhere in Marin County (except San Rafael) has a small town feel to it. Unfortunately, as ground zero for NIMBY-ism, there's really no construction going on in that area. I highly recommend Foster City. Its only 19 miles away from SF. Wikipedia says Foster City is on of the safest cities in the Nation. I was raised here, and its a very good place to live. Kids are very safe here. You can let them walk, bike, hang out without even having to worry. Very clean and no homeless. Its also very small, like 4 square miles. Meee Los Gatos and Saratoga. You aren't going to find "cheap" rent anywhere in the bay area, but these are a few of the smaller town communities and they are around the San Jose area. They are a bit pricey though, but have good schools and hardly any riff-raff. |
