When will the 4th boar on the Caldecott Tunnel in Berkeley, CA be completed? |
Travel Info I know the plan was approved for it in Feb. 2007, but what is the expected completion date for the new tunnel? Travel Tips The tunnel is expected to be open for operation in 2013/2014. Source(s): http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/caldecott/fa... Other Travel Tips They're gonna build another tunnel, not a wild pig. Ok so this question reminded me - well, I cannot resist telling a great old California family story. My great grandfather was the lead original money raiser (on the Contra Costa side) of the tunnel. He also was the supervisor over the building of the first bore (and no, his name was not Caldecott - Caldecott was a Berkeley politician). The story goes that he agreed to supervise the tunnel building project for little to no return because his mother had almost gotten killed one day coming over the existing 'road' over the top of the ridge (behind where the Claremont now is located). Apparently in those days, someone had to go get the mail once in a while from Oakland. She was coming home with the mail in a buckboard wagon - a mountain lion literally attacked her - jumped at her and, having missed the first time, chased her and the wagon right down what is now called Fish Ranch Road......... ok so my dad told great stories so who knows if it is true or not? so someday when you're sitting there in traffic ... you can think about the fact that BEFORE the tunnels were built, she was probably going faster in that wagon than you are! ok sorry, so don't think about that - wonder instead why it takes forever apparently to get ANY road project, however necessary, completed in the Bay Area???? |
