I am going to book a trip to San Francisco and I need help narrowing down hotel options. HELP!!!?

Travel Info
I am stuck between the Handerly, Westin, and JW Marriott. These are all in my price range. Are there any other hotels that are right in the center of everything (so I don't need a rental car) that are affordable? If you have stayed or know of these give me feedback on if they are good places to stay since I have never been to San Francisco before. I can use all the help that I can get!!! Any tips you have will be beneficial!!!

THANK YOU!!!

If by the Westin, you mean the Westin St. Francis, this one is far and away the best of the three in combined location and romance.

The JW is a nice but very new hotel affectionally called the electronic jukebox by some (for the way it looks). It's right on Market Street (busy place) in the midst of a shopping area, but kind of on the edge of where you want to be. High points for modern and new; very low points for romance.

The Handlery is a boutique just off Union Square. I've not stayed there but I've walked past it a gazillion times; it just never reached out and grabbed me.

The Westin St. Francis is right on Union Square - Originally built in 1904 by one of California's richest robber barons (Charles Crocker), the lobby is a gorgeous example of early 20th century opulence. The Compass Rose bar has romance out the kazoo - plush seats, dark wood and a three piece band in the late afternoon. Warning, it is pricey so it's a great splurge but not a permanent place to sit and drink the night away. Buy your fiance a glass of champagne and toast the evening - then move someplace more affordable! Upstairs, the hotel is completely renovated so you'll find a nice room, maybe even with a view (depends on how high up and where you are). Service is also great here - I once ended up having a problem (don't even remember what it was); in response to me sending them a letter, they comp'ed me for one of their largest suites (the Windsor) for the weekend. From Union Square you can easily get to pretty much anyplace in the City you want to go so the location is also primo.

If you do find this kind of older environment appealing, also treat yourself to afternoon tea in the Garden Court at the Sheraton Palace.... or stop by the Pied Piper Bar to see the famous mural - it's a great place for a martini.

SF is one of the most romantic places on earth (particularly if you get fog as a treat) - have a great time!

Good luck!
When I'm booking hotels I always use trip advisor. That way you get a balanced view of all of your options. They provide ratings and people post photographs so its the best way to make an informed decision. I personally like to stay near fisherman's wharf as you're more likely to get a golden gate bridge view and it's nice be near the water. It's still central enough to do everything you'd want to. Have a good trip

Trip Advisor - Here is the one for Handlery Hotel, just type in the other hotels for more info.

Enjoy your stay in SF.
I'm not sure how expensive the Westin Handerly and Marriott are, but the Hilton San Fransicso is going to run you about 230/night. If you can book a room on the outer part, you'll have a nice view of the city, and it's right in the middle of everything. It's a really beautiful hotel, and they have an awesome restaurant on the roof (inside, of course) where you can see the bay and the rest of the city.
Outdoor pool, really beautiful overall. :)
The Handerly is a great location, but not very nice. The Westin St. Francis is right across the street form the Handerly and is 100 times nicer, so if they are the same price go for the Westin.

Might also want to check out the Renaissance Stanford Court and The Argent.
A couple of corrections to earlier answers. First, I would not recommend staying at the Hilton, especially as a single female. It is right on the edge of the Tenderloin, which is a fairly scruffy neighborhood.

Next, the Argent on 3rd Street is now the Westin SF Market Street, not to be confused with the Westin St. Francis on Powell. Prices have gone up, but you might find a bargain. The St. Francis is centrally located, but you should note that the lower rates are in the old wing and the higher rates are in the tower.

Remember that nights are chilly in San Francisco (low 50's F, 10 C), so bring a jacket.
